Head Coach
John started studying the Starting Strength method to improve his own training and soon began to coach others with the method as well. He has successfully used barbell training to strengthen a wide variety of clients from different demographics. John apprenticed under Paul Horn, SSC, and earned the Starting Strength Coach Credential in January of 2022.
Strength Coach
Paul Horn has been a certified Starting Strength Coach since 2012 and has worked under Mark Rippetoe as a member of the Starting Strength Seminar Staff.
A native of Los Angeles, Paul opened and operated the first Starting Strength Affiliate Gym on the West Coast from 2014 to 2020.
Having relocated to beautiful Boise, Idaho, Paul is now the Head Coach at the first official Starting Strength Gym in the state where he remains dedicated to helping people of all ages and athletic capabilities build stronger, more useful bodies through a simple, straightforward, systematic approach to barbell training.
Strength Coach
Although this isn't entirely true, Avery Martz considers himself an Iowa native. He and his wife have been training with the Starting Strength method for three years. A former swimmer, cross country runner, and city bus driver, Avery looks to apply the same blue-collar work ethic to every client at Starting Strength Boise.
Strength Coach
A lifetime of sports and martial arts has led Brandon to the path of becoming a Starting Strength coach. With an extensive background in Hospitality Management, Brandon aims to integrate a high level of customer service into the already world-class coaching model of Starting Strength.
