        • RESULTS: TWO MONTHS OF STARTING STRENGTH

Both trainees had never touched a barbell prior to joining Starting Strength

Graham (age 37) gained 13 lbs of muscle in 10 weeks

He's added 135lbs to his deadlift, 100lbs to his squat, 50lbs to his press, and 45lbs to his bench in 10.5 weeks.

Kathy (age 62) took her deadlift from 85lbs to 195lbs

She tracked her progress with DEXA bodyscans. The result? More lean bodymass, less fat, and a lower bodyfat percentage. Read more.

        • Starting Strength Changes People's Lives

Countless testimonials from people have become better versions of themselves

          Jordan gained 70lbs

After only a year of strength training

Jordan Stanton, now a strengthlifter and a Starting Strength Coach, was once a skinny young man. The process of accumulating size and strength has changed everything about his ability to interact with his physical environment, how he perceives himself, and how he's perceived by others. The transformation was so life changing that Jordan became a coach, a competitor, and now runs an organization to help others compete - The United States Strengthlifting Federation. As you can see, he responded well to Starting Strength and was able to take his deadlift from 185lbs to 500lbs in three months (no, that's not a typo). He gained 70lbs within the first year.

          Patricia was diagnosed with osteoporosis

She REVERSED her diagnosis by improving her bone density

After being diagnosed with osteoporosis, Patricia was given an option from her doctor: start new medication or try strength training to improve bone density. Lucky for Patricia, she lives in Singapore, which is home to the only Starting Strength Affiliated Gym outside of the US. Since Starting Strength, she can now lift 1.5x her body-weight, and her diagnosis has been downgraded from osteoporosis to osteopenia.

Nikki lost 30lbs and squatted 292lbs after four months

          Strength training > cardio

Nikki Burman, now a strengthlifter and a Starting Strength Coach, has a very common story. She had tried every exercise program and several diets to get fit and healthy - nothing worked. The formula she found? Lift heavy, eat a high protein, low-medium fat diet, and eat enough carbs to fuel strength gains. In the first several months of training under the guidance of a Starting Strength Coach, she lost 30lbs while getting stronger. After four months of training, Nikki was able to squat 292lbs and deadlift 303lbs.

Brian fell over twenty feet from a roof

"We were convinced by doctors that life was going to be spent in a wheelchair or behind a walker"

When asked what advice he has for others facing similar challenges, Brian stated, “Never cheat yourself out of the opportunity to improve. We all have a limited amount of days to do this. Use them. I have no doubt that anyone who gets their mind right can accomplish, achieve, and surpass the results that I have seen. Injuries or inactivity with bones and muscles may be the reason you are where you are – your head and your heart control where you can go and what you will be.” Read his detailed case study, here.

Julia took her MMA career to the next level

Strength enabled her to dominate the competition

Julia's strength and conditioning coach introduced her to Starting Strength. She's now stronger than she's ever been, injury free, and is dominating the competition. After putting on spectacular performances in smaller organizations like Invicta FC, Julia got the call from the UFC and took her career to the next level in the world's premiere MMA organization.

Scott was barely able to walk

          Due to debilitating back pain

Scott could hardly walk without crutches or drugs. After six weeks he was squatting in the low 200s and deadlifting in the mid 200s. Starting Strength has helped countless people reduce or eliminate their back pain, since a strong back often hurts less than a weak back. Read about Scott's story, here. And read up on the benefits of back strength for back pain, here.
